Marin Alsop debut with Netherlands Radio Philharmonic Orchestra
Marin Alsop will conduct a program with music by Brahms and Dvořák. With this she will lead the Netherlands Radio Philharmonic Orchestra for the first time.
This month the American conductor Marin Alsop will stand in front of the Netherlands Radio Philharmonic Orchestra for the first time. She did previously guest conduct a radio orchestra. As a matter of fact she led the Netherlands Radio Chamber Orchestra in 2002 in a varied program. At the time music by among others Schönberg, Copland en J. Strauss could be heard. Contemporary and American Music are favourite territories of the conductor.
Brahms
On 4 July Alsop will conduct the 2nd Piano Concerto by Brahms to start with. This composer too has become one of her specialisms. From 2004 until 2007 she recorded his four symphonies with the London Philharmonic Orchestra. This series for the Naxos label has become an extraordinary success. Since then she has been in great demand for repertoire by Brahms.
Enrico Pace
Enrico Pace will be the soloist in Brahms’ brilliant 2nd Piano Concerto. In 1989 after winning the second International Franz Liszt Piano Competition he became famous overnight in The Netherlands. Since then he has been broadening his repertoire considerably. He plays with orchestra, gives solo recitals and plays chamber music. This last genre as a permanent partner of violinist Frank Peter Zimmermann, for one.
Dvořák
After the interval of the concert the Netherlands Radio Philharmonic will play the 6th Symphony by Dvořák. Music by this composer finds itself regularly on the Alsop’s music stand. At the end of July 2009 she will conduct the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra in his 8th Symphony. Last year together with the same orchestra she recorded the famous 9th Symphony. This release by Naxos has been received with great critical acclaim.
More concerts
This coming season Marin Alsop will also perform with radio ensembles. On 10 April 2010 she will conduct the Netherlands Radio Philharmonic Orchestra and the Netherlands Radio Choir. During this important ZaterdagMatinee (Saturday Matinee) the new version of Les sept paroles du Christ en croix by Tristan Murail will be premiered. This concert will also be recorded for television. Both ensemles will be conducted by Alsop once more on 2 July 2010 in a performance of Ein deutsches Requiem by, once again, Brahms.
