Jaap van Zweden to leave Netherlands Radio Philharmonic in 2012

Thursday 29 April 2010

After careful consideration Jaap van Zweden has decided to end his contract as chief conductor of the Netherlands Radio Philharmonic Orchestra as off August 1st 2012. Reason for this decision is his increasing number of obligations to prominent European and American orchestras. In addition to these Van Zweden also holds the post of Music Director of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra.

Over the past year it has become evident to van Zweden that it is hard to combine these obligations and responsabilities. So after several wonderful seasons with the Netherlands Radio Philharmonic Orchestra and the Netherlands Radio Chamber Philharmonic Jaap van Zweden will say good-bye as chief conductor. It has recenctly been announced that Jaap van Zweden is to step down as chief conductor of the Royal Flemish Philharmonic in Antwerp, Belgium, as well in the Summer of  2012.

With great pleasure the Netherlands Radio Philharmonic Orchestra has offerd the title of its honorary guest conductor to Jaap van Zweden .
